Something Wicked... 4939 by schon Something Wicked... 4939 by schon
"By the pricking of my thumbs,
Something wicked this way comes"
-- Ray Bradbury

A storm advancing towards the town of Lake Louise, Alberta.

Another shot of this is here: [link]. my wife prefers that one because you can see more of the town - I'd like to hear your thoughts - which do you prefer, and why? :)

you're welcome. i must admit that i much prefer not to see the town (or hiway 1). i think the beauty and power of nature is best appreciated without the influence of civilization. that said, the other pic is beautiful too. :D

This place is AMAZING. Wow. I would like to live here. As long as it's got a good internet connection.

Umm, by "home" I meant where we were staying.. I don't live there, but it's a short drive (relatively speaking :))

My parents used to live in Canmore, which is a little ways down the highway.. still in the mountains, and looks very similar. The internet connection in Canmore is better than Lake Louise. :)

Wow... I've never seen anything like this, short of a tornando or three. Outside of a tornado, I've never seen anything like this. This is really weird, and beautiful. I see snow on the mountains, is that a snow storm? It looks like snow. But everything is so green, like it's spring or summer.

It's just so gorgeous.

Thanks :)

It was a hail storm - this was taken April 18, which would be early spring in the Rockies. The trees are pine, and stay green all year round.

To give you a sense of scale, that mountain peak is over 5000 feet higher than the townsite (in the foreground).

Ah, that explains it. I thought it was snow which made me think it was winter and I thought it was a bit too green for winter. That looks awesome though. So gorgeous.

As far as elevation... I have to be in the mountains or else I'm not very happy. I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, not quite as high as your picture, but damn near close! Give me trees and mountains over the ocean any day.

I love the mountains too.. too bad I live a minimum 4hour drive from the closest ones :( (Lake Louise, where this photo was taken is a good 7 hours from my home).. I love the ocean and the mountains together.. if you do manage to come up here, I highly recommend the drive from Victoria to Nanaimo - the scenery is stunning. (Mountains on one side, ocean and mountains on the other :))

I thought the Blue Ridge mountain peaks were only around 6000 feet? That's about half of these (Pope's Peak, in the picture is 10500.. the town of Lake Louise sits at 5300)

Oh my. I couldn't imagine living so far from the mountains. At least if you want to get to them you it's drivable. 4 hours isn't a very long distance. Now, I can have mountains and ocean. I wouldn't mind that one bit. For me to get to the ocean now, I would have to drive about 3 1/2 - 4 hours. Not long, really. I really would love to see that drive in Canada... with the mountains on one side, ocean on the other... how majestic that must look.

Ahhhh, I misread what you posted. Yes, Blue Ridge is not nearly that high. I thought I read the mountain itself was 5300... I'm sorry. I've been up since very early today and it's late now... >.< Pope's Peak 10,500? Good lord... what a hike that would be. :D
