Well, after two aborted tries, three hours of photography, and a month of processing, here is my first attempt at a 238 degree night panorama of Edmonton.
This is 35 stacks of 6 photos each (if you're counting, that's 210 photos ), with exposure times ranging from 1/8 second to 2.5 minutes. It's also the first panorama I took with my Pentax K-5.
Update 2011-02-15: I redid this by tonemapping the HDR images first and then stitching them. I think this version is much better, and I was able to create the entire panorama full-size (8GB of RAM isn't enough to tone-map a 200 megapixel ) - although DA limits uploads to a width of 18000 pixels, so I can't upload the full size version anyway.
Visible in this picture, roughly from left to right, Saskatchewan Drive, Queen Elizabeth Road, Walterdale Hill, Kinsmen rec center, University of Alberta, Queen Elizabeth Park, High Level Bridge, Walterdale Park, River Valley Road, Walterdale bridge, North Saskatchewan River, Alberta Legislature grounds, Downtown skyline, Epcor power station, and a tiny sliver of the Rossdale neighborhood.
Recommend the "Download" link if you want to see it in all it's glory.
Thanks.. and go right ahead - if you can find somewhere that will print it and want it in the largest format just ask (DA won't let me upload anything larger than 18000px across
oh mcbains will print it....probably end up costing a couple hundred bucks but it's soooo freaking awesome i'm almost willing to do so...i'll have to ask around
